Maintaining privacy on Facebook may be getting easier:

Great article on FT.com (you may need to register, but it is free). Glad to read that Facebook will now try to make privacy even easier to maintain.

Quotes:

Facebook caves in to privacy pressures - FT.com

    • Facebook will release new privacy controls next week that step back from the concept of “frictionless sharing”, which its executives touted last year as key to allowing users to more easily reflect “the story of their lives” on Facebook.
      • In future, Facebook will breakdown the permissions on its site into two steps – one that allows the user to sign up, giving the developer access to the person’s profile in order to personalise the app, and a second step that allows the apps to post content to the person’s timeline. Users can agree to the first without having to agree to the second.
        • There will also be a new privacy shortcuts bar written in plain language that allows users to change settings, such as “Who can see my stuff?” and “How do I stop someone from bothering me?”
