I will be counting down! 10, 9, 8.... It's almost as exciting as New Year's...Maybe even more so as this is a once in a lifetime event! We get to watch a 5125 year long calendar start over!
Some say the Mayans didn't account for our leap years, but the fact is their calendar system was more accurate than ours. They measured by Long Count, which is all about the count of days so a leap day every fourth year would not make any difference. Julius Caesar imposed the Leap Year in 45 B.C. Also Long Count does not have any relation to the seasons so there was no need to add a leap day ever four years. I have also seen some people say it is already the 21st in Australia, and everything is fine. While I do not think there will be any major catastrophic event tomorrow on Dec. 21st, I also must point something out. The Mayans did not build their calendar to the Australian time zone. The Mayans lived in the Yucatan Peninsula, so the Mayan Apocalypse would happen in their own time zone. Set your clock accordingly! There is belief that if anything would happen it would be at the exact time Winter Solstice begins, at 11:11 am UTC which for me would be 6:11 am ET on 12/21/12!
I am posting this on my blog around 6:11 pm Dec. 20, 2012. It will propagate through my networks (Facebook and Twitter) over the next hour or so. So there is less than 12 hours left!
